How do I transfer the existing threads and users? I assume database work needs to be done...

This would technically be possible, but since Proboards is a remotely hosted solution, definitely not easy. You'd probably have to hire someone to write a custom importer since I'm unaware of any pre-existing scripts which would do this.

If they make data available to you, you could switch over, yes.

However, getting that data could be a real pain. I would not advise going through the trouble of something like a screan scraper.
