we have 6.5 and it is set where all members have to register to see the board! why do we kkeep seeing annoymous user and if we check the who's online feature it shows them listing forums, reading profiles and etc.

how are they doing this?

Anonymous users can read profiles, there's no restriction for this. And you do have a forum available to people who aren't logged in, so that's probably accurate.

One thing to keep in mind, the online list is generated from what script is being called, if they aren't allowed to see something they will see an error message instead. So the online page doesn't mean they are really seeing it even if it says they are.

Also, most anonymous users are bots and spiders from search engines and/or your banner ads.

ah, josh your the man! your an expert i hear on trollproblems too. If we ban how do we keep them off from using proxies to get back on? or how can we find out where all this ip's are coming from? or is there no way to stop this? like right now it is late and there is 5 annoymous users. and one registered member we think maybe a banned member in cognito bu t they use a ip masking program.

Banning only prevents them from posting. If you want to block an IP from you site totally.... you might want to look at blocking their IP at a server level.

Myself, I wouldn't get excited about the anonymous users.... they can't do anything. And if I were a betting man I'd put my money on search engine spiders or bots from all the banners you've got on your site. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

thank you josh!you have the best reputation for these boards espically like ours so i do trust what you tell me. trolls are notorious on our sites. and they are driving me crazy right now. lol when we grow up and make some money we do want to hire you to do some alterations for us. we would like games and some of the options they have removed such as styles and etc, but that is coming we are beginning to grow slowly and get a few doantions so we have a joshpet fund going!
