We just upgraded our discussion board from 6.4.4 to 6.5.1.1. Went well except for one thing: our admins have a "Control Panel" to access but our mods do not.

The only thing I can think of is that I screwed up when I changed the "ubbt_registerednav.tmpl" to modify the order of the menu display. Here's what the code looks like now:

[] <!-- <? //UBBTREMARK -->
// File Version 6.5.1.1

<!-- echo <<<UBBTPRINT -->
$tbopen
<tr>
<td align="left" class="menubar" width="75%">
<a href = "$phpurl/$FrontPage.php{$var_start}Cat{$var_eq}$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['FORUM_IND']}</a>
&middot;
<a href= "$phpurl/login.php?Cat=$Cat&amp;amp;myhome=1">{$ubbt_lang['MY_HOME']}</a>
&middot;
<a href = "$phpurl/search.php?Cat=$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['TEXT_SEARCH']}</a>
&middot;
<a href="{$config['phpurl']}/dosearch.php?Cat=$Cat&amp;amp;Forum=All_Forums&amp;amp;Words=&amp;amp;daterange=1&amp;amp;newertype=d&amp;amp;newerval=1&amp;amp;Limit=25&amp;amp;topic=1&amp;amp;fromsearch=1">
{$ubbt_lang['ACTIVE_TOPICS']}
</a>
&middot;
<a href = "$phpurl/online.php?Cat=$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['WHO_ON']}</a>
&middot;
<a href = "$phpurl/faq.php?Cat=$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['FAQ_TEXT']}</a>
$members_link
&middot;
<a href = "$phpurl/calendar.php?Cat=$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['CALENDAR']}</a>
&middot;
$adminlink
</td>
<td align="right" valign="bottom" width="25%" class="menubar">
{$ubbt_lang['INTRO_SUB2']} {$user['U_Username']}.
[<a href = "$phpurl/logout.php?Cat=$Cat">{$ubbt_lang['LOGOUT_TEXT']}</a>]
$privateslink
</td>
</tr>
$tbclose
<br />
<!-- UBBTPRINT; -->
<!-- /* UBBTREMARK */ ?> -->
[/]

Can you tell if I've messed something up?

Are mods supposed to have a "Control Panel" option like admins do?

Thanks much for your help. My mods all things they've been fired. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Okay, I restored the original template file and still don't see any "Control Panel" feature for moderators (only admins have it).

What am I missing? Thanks!

Moderator access to most of the control panel is no longer possible in 6.5. Almost all Moderator tasks can now be performed completely through the front end.

Thanks, Charles. Is it no longer possible for moderators to approve posts sitting in a queue waiting for approval?

I actually don't know how that mechanism works now. Can you try giving them the direct link to the approval queue script?

I don't get why this change was ever made. The control panel offered useful tools for moderators that came in handy more than once, that have now been taken away. For instance, there used to be an option for searching through the username database, forum statistics and IP banning. Now what do we have?

If "basic" is now synonymous with "most", then yes, most moderator controls are at the front end. However, in my opinion, these tools are only adequate for smaller communities, not boards that have to sometimes or often deal with abusers and ban evaders etc..

I think it's one of those "can't please everyone" things. For years people have complained that they don't want moderators to access the CP.

As a consultant, I probably did the same number of jobs removing the admin panel from mods under 6.4 and earlier as I do applying the mod to add admin access back for mods under 6.5.

Ideally this would have been admin configurable as to who could see the admin panel.

lol, 'can't please everyone', never a truer word said!

It would have been better in fact if, to take your suggestion one step further, admins could control what mods saw in the CP and whether they wanted them to see it at all.

As for people moaning about removing the CP, why on Earth are they giving moderator status to people they don't trust enough to use the relatively simple features that I saw exist? It's not like they could change permissions or assume accounts.
