If I rename a group will the members of that group have access to the forums to which the newly named group are given access?

I'm asking because I need to create new groups and have used the maxium 99 groups allowed by ubbthreads. I thought that if I can use the old groups by renaming them this might give me the extra groups I need but I don't want the members of the groups that I'm renaming to have access to the forums which the newly named groups will be given access.

Thanks,
Dan

Should be fine, they go by the group number actually - the name is just for public consumption.

Thanks Allen. I'm still concerned though and perhaps i haven't conveyed the problem well.

Let's say we have group #1 whose members have access to a private forum "A". When I rename group #1 for a new group of users that will have access to private forum "B" won't the original users assigned to group #1 have access to forum "B"? And won't the new group of users assigned to group #1 have access to private forum "A"?

If so that's what I'm trying to avoid.

Thanking you in advance,
Dan Hill

If you change a group name you will also need to run a query to update those members with a pointer to the old name to access the new one. You will need to update your w3t_Boards, and w3t_Users tables accordingly.

???

It's stored by the number in the tables... isn't it? Changing the name won't affect access of those who belong to that group, or the forums they have access to

Renaming the group doesn't change other settings, only the name. Those who belonged to Group Superman will still have access to the same stuff even if you change the name to Group Kryptonite

Only if you spell Kryptonite with C

My bad I was thinking about forum names and the recent refusal of threads to accept an underscore in the keyword.
