I was trying to work out which module I need to modify in order to get the 'New User' link to appear in the same box as the message...
You are not logged in [login]

I am rolling out access to my forums to users who are not web-savy and one of the feedback points was that it is not easy for new users to see what to click in order to register.
I thought that if I could get the new user link displayed in a more prominent position it would help them.

I'm aware that modifying the standard code invalidates the support agreements, but thats my risk.

You'd edit the template:

ubbt_unregisterednav.tmpl

Editing templates do not invalidate your support agreement.

Change this section:


to something like:


That would make the new user link bold
