Hello,

As a newbie, I am a bit confused with using FTP to upload the files to the web server. If my computers is already mapped to the webserver, and I work directly with the files (not a download copy), do I still need to "upload" the files after I have made the changes?

Thanks,
Tippy

If you are using a local machine, then there is no need to FTP. (If you are using a Mac, please do note that you may need to convert ultimatebb.cgi and cp.cgi to Unix line endings, which is what FTPing in ASCII mode does. If you are on a Unix machine, please use the -a argument to GNU unzip to do the same.)

Hello Again,

I am a newbie with CGI and Perl. I have tried to make some changes on the .pl and .cgi files. (e.g. change the URL of the Forum Title image, background color for the FAQ page).

In some cases, my edits work. However, in other cases, like changing the URL of the Forum Title image, it didn't work. It seems that no matter what I did to the codes, the codes stay the same as the original.

Please help!!!

TIA

You might have to clear UBB's cache to get these changes to appear.

I cleared the cache using "Clear Cached Pages" in the CP. Is this the correct way to clear cache? No success neither after cache is cleared. I should clear the cache AFTER I have saved the changes, right?

Yes, that is the correct way to clear the cache and yes you should only do this when making changes and after those changes have been uploaded (or saved to the server.)
