To add new categories go to the Control Panel and click Category Settings and create your categories. To create forums, go to Control Panel and click Forum Settings, in there you will see Add New Forum, click that and start creating forums.

You can reference the documents at:
https://www.ubbcentral.com/docs.php
select the administration guide.
It will help to explain what the different settings are but not much help to actually take you through the steps.

The first item is to add a forum.
goto:
Control Panel » Forum Settings
there will be a link on the bottom looks like a tab.
"add new forum" select it.
There will be items to fill out, refer to the guide for explanation of what each one does.
When done giving a name,etc.
Select the add new forum button.

Now you need to allow people to see and use the forum including yourself.
when adding a new forum it will take you to:
Control Panel » Forum Permissions
Here you need to set what features are available for each user group.
in most cases a feature is enabled if set to 1 and disabled if set to 0.

So if you click on the first option:
Can see forum
You will see the groups there.
for example
Administrators
GlobalModerators
Moderators
Users
Set the admin to 1 so you can see it
And you probably want to set users and guests to a 1

A guest is a non registered person
And a user group is the default registered members.

Now all you have done is allow those people to see the forum.
So you need to go through the rest of the permission settings
Now some settings will be enabled by default using the new forum template.
But you should double check them anyway.
when done select the "update this forums permissions" button.

Then go to your site and you should see the forum you created.

Just got a new forum and changed over to our new domain.

The below depends on how your hosting your website. I will take a shot at some basic styles of shared hosting and what goes down.

Not sure if you figured this issue out yet or not, but if you have other domains on your account with your host it could take some time before everything switches over. Given you uploaded (FTP) everything correctly, I would make sure your domain is pointed in the right direction first as with how it looks into your root and which directory/folder it is looking at. If you have other domains registered with your hosting account, use one root for all domains, especially if you have to set a master domain or FTP account, there is a chance you might have to start out with one of your other domains before all gets figured out with the change over you did. That or remove all other domains from the hosting account setup like I mentioned above. A couple of hosting platforms I have worked with will do this for up to 48 hours where the install is done with one of the other domains.

If the following does not work out then either your files did not upload correctly, you uploaded a .zip file and have not unzipped it yet, file permissions not set correctly for the ones that need this or your domain is not pointing correctly (contact your host or who is hosting your domain if this is happening). This must be domain & directory/folder name specific totally, so go ahead and type this into your Firefox or Chrome browser URL bar up top:

http://www.yourdomain.com/forums/install/install.php

I will let this Click Here guide you further. If you are this far and just looking on what to do, Ruben posted a good run down above. Good luck. smile

Guys thanks finally got all of that figured out using your advice. It was greatly appreciated.

Next questions is. I have a sponsor who we are trying to place his banner on the left side of the screen and when clicked it will direct to site. How is this done?

The easy way would be to enable islands and place their banner in a island.
Then set it to appear on the left side.

That would look ugly placing it on the side.
Since it is a landscape layout.
You might consider to place it as a ad.

Custom Island Insert
This will show up between the 1st and 2nd post of a topic. Usually the most effective place to put ads.

You are 100% correct. I clicked custom island/click ont he first one/changed name to Advertisement/ then inserted [Linked Image from i266.photobucket.com] into the box and hit submit. What am I doing wrong? That si the same code I used for my signature line

Well when using as a regular custom island. If you have a landscape banner.
It will push everything over to the right.
So keep the island but do not show it.
Then goto:
Control Panel » Forum Settings
Select the forum details for the forum in question.
Then select the tab"Custom inserts"
In that area you will see:
Custom Island Insert

Select the island and will appear in the middle of the page as noted.
"This will show up between the 1st and 2nd post of a topic. Usually the most effective place to put ads."
Or you will need a banner that is in portrait mode to show up on the side.

Also it would be helpful if you post the url to the forum so we can view it.

I had the same question back when.

Well I don't see it. Possibly the forum is not for guests to view.
Or maybe we need a url because I can't find it.

The link is the main summary page. Not correct.
Probably guests are not allowed to see the test page.
Lets try this a different way.
Post the complete code you have in the island.

Goto your control panel;
And open the custom island you used for advertisements and cut and paste all of it here. Using the quote code tag.

You probably placed it in the wrong part.

Edit Custom Portal Island
Custom Islands
Name
This appears as the header for the custom portal box.
Cache Time
In Minutes. If zero is specified, the body of this custom box will be static, ie. never updated. This setting would be used for things like links, banner ads, etc.
Always Build
With this option checked, this island will always be built even if it's not used in your portal. This would allow you to use the island elsewhere on your site.
Body
This should contain the PHP code or HTML for the custom box. $body contains the actual content that should be printed in the custom box.

Warning: Invalid PHP code that has syntax errors can result in breaking the entire portal.
