I received this email from someone trying to register to my forums (actually, two similar problem reports concerning inability to register):

"I tried registering on your forum the other night and after a few attempts to get a valid user name/e-mail combination the web site "encountered an error". I then tried filling out the registration form again and no mater what combination of user name/password I tried I kept getting a User name /password not found message from the registration page. I tried again this afternoon to register but now I am receiving an message telling me that my e-mail is already associated with an account but I have not received the normal verification link in my e-mail as of yet. I don't know if it just hasn't been sent out yet or or if there is a hangup in your registration process caused by the error I received the other night. If you can please resend the verification e-mail i would much appreciate it."

Upon checking, I have three Users Awaiting Approval listed on the Admin Control Panel. However, when clicking on the approval link, I receive a blank screen. I have tried to search for the Display name, login, and email. They can't be found.

I have tried to enter the user manually and receive the error that display name and login are currently in use.

Any idea as to what I am missing?????

I found the posting where this is listed as a bug under 7.2.2.

I followed the suggested fix and it does work as being able to add a new user.

However, I have one new user that is receiving an "email address already used" error.

Any way to clear the registration queue???

I don't recall a bug on this for the current version

It sounds like what is happening is you have Enable Email Verification turned on.
When it is turned on the email from that user is reserved for a while.
Possibly your authentication emails are not being sent.
Anyway it should be in ubb cp-membership -members -tab registration queue

Or it could be a true duplicate.
Which you can search for the email in ubb cp membership-members

Which sounds like what you are doing.

What version are you using?

Also a url to your site may be helpful.
Your profile has a broken url for homepage.

I am on 7.3.3

I did have the Twitter required set. Removing that as per the bug report cleared one of the users. The second user I had tried to manually enter before finding the bug posting. After clearing the setting, I was able to initiate a manual user creation for one. The second user returned the duplicate email address error.

It has been resolved in that he was able to register using a different email address.

The url is http://4x4wire.com/forums

I'll check my profile url....

Okay I tried to register.
I failed captcha twice.
Now it says user name or email already used.
HUMM.
You do require a birth-date.
Which was a very very old bug which I thought was squashed.
Maybe try turning off age restriction and see?.

I did have the age-check enabled. It has now been shut off. I did have another user register within the last 30 minutes with no apparent problems.

Was that before or after turning off age verification?

I wasn't clear.... The new registration appeared to happen prior to turning off the age check. As I follow the sequence of events, the first user hung due to the Twitter required setting. Not knowing about that, I tried to manually create his account. At that point I received the duplicate email error.

After turning off the Twitter required, I was able to create an account for one user. But, the one user I received the dup email still would not work. I was able to contact that user and he tried to register with a different email address. That worked fine.

As you noted a possible error linked to the age requirement, I shut it off. Then I noted the Users Awaiting Approval had been incremented. I was able to see a new user request. So, three new users were logged. I am not sure if the age requirement off fixed anything. I do know the Twitter switch appears to be problematic.

kf6zpl, Thank you for reporting this, and spending your time with quick followups.

I believe this is the post that's been referred to through this thread -

(linking to it so others can find it easily)

The "New Registrations requiring Twitter" issue is fixed for 7.7.4

well eventually the ubb will clear the users like myself waiting on validation all by itself..When it does I will register again.
So maybe the age check still is bugged..
But like I said I thought it was squashed.
