UBB.threads 8.0.0 Changelog
Version 8.0.0 brings php 8 support to your forums. It has been tested to be compatible with php 7.2 - php 8.3. This release also contains added features, library and asset updates, maintenance items, and fixes.

Primary Changes In This Release
  • PHP 8 support. UBB.threads now supports php 7.2 - 8.3.
  • All libraries and assets updated.
  • Reformatted and standardized all code.
  • Cleanup of UBB scripts, templates, and CSS files.
  • More bug squashing and layout updates.

Summary of Changes
### Added
- Added PHPMailer library version 6.2.0.
- Post editor interface toolbar option to choose interface between Standard and Classic styles.

### Changed
- Updated PHPMailer library to version 6.9.1.
- Updated FontAwesome library to version 6.5.2.
- Updated jQuery library to version 3.7.1.
- Updated Smarty library to version 4.5.2.
- Updated Autosize asset to version 6.0.1.
- Updated Clipboard asset to version 2.1.1.
- Updated Jdenticon asset to version 3.2.0.
- Updated TinyMCE asset to version 6.8.3.
- Updated Dropzone asset to version 5.9.2.
- Updated LightGallery asset to version 1.10.0.
- PHPMailer X-Mailer header will now only broadcasts when debugging is enabled.

### Fixed
- Many coding issues related to php 8.0 - 8.3.
- Forum Help (FAQ) desciription ordering display bug fixes. (Thanks to Gismo Der Erste for reporting this bug.)
- Fixed a bug that causes HTML special characters to be encoded twice on Portal News Blocks. (Thanks to Morgan for reporting this bug!)
- CP: Adding, replacing, or Removing Graemlin images has been fixed.
- Disabling a style from the CP reverts any user who has selected that style, to instead use the default style. Re-enabling the style will enable the member's style again if they have not specifically chosen another one since. Note, deleting styles always reverts users back to the set forum default style.
- When a user logs out, the default style will be automatically chosen for them as a guest. This does not affect their member account style selection.
- Post Author Initial-Avatars are correctly sized when enabled.

### Removed
- This version removes support for php 5.4 - 7.1. UBB.threads 8.0 will be the final release to support php 7. All future versions of UBB.threads will require at least php 8.

All notable version changes can be found in the UBB.threads Changelog

Upgrading UBB.threads
The upgrade path since UBB.threads version 7.5.6 continues to be to move to the most recent version of UBB.threads as they become available, such as 7.5.6 -> 8.0.0.

There is no need to do an incremental update from 7.5.6 to 7.6.0 to 7.7.0 to 7.7.5 to 8.0.0...etc. You should update directly, to the most recent version of UBB.threads. This procedure is compatible with any version greater or equal to 7.5.6.

For an older version, ask for help on the Community Support Forums.

Please do check UBB.threads current Requirements. Especially if your PHP/MySQL configuration is NOT sufficient, do not go further as the upgrade process will fail.

For routine incremental upgrades, refer to the UBB.threads Upgrade Guide for directions on how to proceed.

If you are upgrading from a version older than the last version, review any special instructions listed within the Upgrade Instructions (install/UPGRADE_INSTRUCTIONS.txt), from each version just above the version you are coming from. Normally there are no special instructions, or they may explain a new feature for you to configure.

No Special Upgrade Instructions for upgrading from 7.7.5 to 8.0.0

General Upgrade Notes
If you have modified the software (modifications to stock code), we recommend using a file comparison tool such as Beyond Compare to ensure you are running the latest base software as a platform for your mods, where at all possible.

If you are unsure about performing an upgrade or initial install (this is quite easy) on your own, UBBCentral has professional staff on hand to help you through this process. We offer professional install and upgrade services. Click to see your options.

Thank you for keeping UBBT alive and updated.
I have downloaded it and will upgrade in a few days when time permits.
I guess it’s like an ordinary upgrade and after it’s done one can update the PHP to version 8 as well.
But before doing that it would probably be good to check the settings so it match 7.4.
Speaking of PHP is there a recommendation from you so the PHP function works best with UBBT. Or should one just use the default settings?
Anyway I’m really happy that UBBT ver 8 is available 🙏👍😄

The latest would be the latest available, 8.3 would be the fastest (and is what our last testing bed was)

you should be able to upgrade from any version of php7.2+, and probably (untested) are able to run the upgrader through php 5.4 at minimum.

but the lowest supported version for actually running UBBT 8.0 forum software is php 7.2

Ruben, from experience I have had trouble sometimes when upgrading PHP. it turns out that some settings I did on to avoid trouble changed back when I upgraded to a newer PHP. From my novice knowledge I suggest that you move to PHP 7.4.33 or at least 7.4 before you upgrade to
UBBT 8. My suggestion is a sort of qualified guess based on what I experienced.

php.ini contains your PHP config settings. if you are moving across different PHP major and point revisions, its possible that each version has its own php.ini file in its directory. such as php 7.2 and 7.3 are normally kept separate.
https://www.php.net/manual/en/configuration.file.php

many hosts may have another config file that takes your php settings and passes them to other php point revision updates. you may also be passing php settings along through an .htaccess file in an upper level directory.

all of this is beyond the scope of conversation for this release of UBB.threads. google is your friend for further research, asking your host is also good advice thumbsup

Most hosts today have a option in cpanel called multiphp editor
Which gives you simple options to change php versions
You just select the desired version and submit

Have been mostly away since Isaac started this thread. Soon I'll be available to do the upgrade myself.
Have anyone we know so far done the upgrade? Except for Isaac and Gizmo. Would be cool to see it running elsewhere before I start working on it.

Upgrade to 8.0.0 was a dream for me - forum came right back up. Going to PHP 8.2 is a different issue per my other post.

Hey, I see that you guys are working on 8.0.1
a moment ago I reactivated my old twitter account now named X and I shared a post from my own 7.7.5 Britbike forum.
That trigged me to check this forum using 8.0.1 and to my surprise I noticed that you have not change from twitter to X i the share option.
see image it should read "X" not "Twitter" right?
