The route I posted above is what I'm using at my site, and leaves the MESSAGE_USERS table alone so you end up wiht non-existant topics linked to... So I think I'll include a check to validate if the pm's exist and purge those which do not...
Shouldn't be too much work, though i'd clone my pm's from my live site to put on my dev site as to not b0rk things hehe... but it'll be a few days till i no longer have to peck at keys
