We run themepark.nl on a shared hosting environment from NXS Internet. We pull away about 70 gb a month which is mostly just pages from the forum (we don't offer image hosting). We have no complaints whatsoever about our site performance.

So shared hosting is not per se a bad thing. As a guy from NXS once said to me, if we can host a thousand websites on our virtual hosting cluster, yours doesn't realy makes the difference.
