BTW, 1GB ram on a server isn't that bad; your shared memory will help on any system...
if you're looking for more than that, you'd likely need a dedicated, or at least a semi dedicated machine (a vps with minimal users)
Honestly, by the size of your forum, it doesn't look like you'd need more than a linux machine with 512mb ram, 10gb disk and 1tb transfer...
