How about Hugh Lawrie in 'House'? I like this program, but is his accent convincing to a US audience? (Having heard many US accents on TV, I find it one of the oddest - to my ears.)

I have watched the series House since it's start. I never knew Hugh Lawrie is British... then recently I saw a video clip of him speaking at some award event. I was very surprised to hear him speaking with a British accent which I now know of course is his natural speech. I am impressed when an actor can pull that off. Catherine Zeta Jones can talk? I haden't noticed. smirk
